Anne Glenconner was born in 1932, the eldest daughter of the 5^th Earl of Leicester, and grew up at their ancestral estate at Holkham Hall in Norfolk, England. She grew up near the royal family, her entire life and most of her family had served the royal family in similar capacities. The story starts when Helen Bonham Carter meeting Lady Glenconner for tea to speak about Princess Margaret and her upcoming role in The Crown.

She reveals her childhood best friend was Princess Margaret. Her father was friends with the King. Furthermore, she reveals Lord Glenconner left his fortune to a former servant. His two children were diet when they were adults. A third one was in the hospital, and back from a six-month coma following a horrific motorcycle accident. Anne also describes the royal family, including visiting the White House, and famous hosting Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and many other politicians and celebrities. This book is interesting that will engage the reader from start to end of the page. All in all, Lady in Waiting is a great autobiography book for all the readers.
