Penelope Fitzgerald is the author of this classic novel. Florence Green is the prominent character of the story. She is the mother of a five-year-old son whose husband died a few months ago. They were financially stable but now they are hand to tow. Florence did not know what to do to fulfill the needs of her home and son.

She has to pay the debts and now no one is helping her. Florence somehow manages to collect enough money to start a bookshop. Initially, she got no success but later on, it works for her. Now, the people who are outside the town and with-in the town buys books from her. Just in six months, her shop becomes famous and she is finically famous. There are some other people in the town who are not happy by seeing the success of a widow woman. The shopkeeper is making a plan against Florence and they did not want to see her anymore. She steals all the customers and one night an incident happen that make Florence’s life even worse. What happened with her and did she recover after that?
