Maleeka and Sarah are a key role in the story. Maleeka is a 13-year-old young African-American girl who lives in New York City. She is an obedient girl from her parents and she is studying in grade 6. Maleeka is not a happy girl anymore from the last few months. There is not a single kid in her class whose skin color is similar to her. Maleeka has a dark color and other kids in the school used to bully her.

Although, Maleeka is good in studies and she never has any complaint from the teachers on her behavior. Maleeka hates her school and did not want to go there. She has not to tell anything to her parents yet. She believes that all is happening due to her color. Maleeka begins to hate herself but then her life begins to change after a new teacher appointed to her class. Sarah is the new teacher and she also has a dark color. Maleeka saw that her teacher loves the way she is and her teacher also loves her color. Maleeka wanted to learn how to love herself but how?
